Mike, KG4RKL, will describe, and maybe show or demonstrate, some gear he wishes to sell or swap. He wrote:
I have some old Collins equipment I wish to trade / sell for something I could use to build up my own shack. I purchased the Collins equipment from another ham who was moving and did not want to take his old equipment with him.... The receiver and speaker looks like the one pictured in the latest QST, but mine is the -2 and has a Q-multiplier with it. I do have my old station when I had an active ticket ( back in 1964, I was worked CW on 80 M ). I plan to get my old Hallicrafter SX-140 and HT-40 working soon. ...I would like to give our ARC members first shot at these items.
What would you have to swap or sell? Please describe, show, or demonstrate it at the January meeting.
But--wait! There's more: we'll also consider a By-Law amendment proposed by W4PWF at the December meeting, namely, to elect club officers at the November meeting each year, which is generally better attended than the December meeting and hence more likely to have a quorum. In order to vote on this at the January meeting, we must have a quorum--we need YOU! Please attend.
We'll also consider how to receive and use or dispose of gear to be donated by W4ZPQ (see article below). So don't miss out--please join us at the January meeting on January 21!

Walt Wurfel, W4ZPQ, contacted the Arlington County Chapter of the Red Cross to say that he would like to donate amateur gear. At the request of Jeanne Combos of the ACC, I called Walt on January 14 to ask for details. Walt said that he would be moving in a couple of months, and would like to donate:
The Tri-Bander is on a pipe mast, not a tower. Walt needs help taking it down. I mentioned that the club might not need another tri-band beam, but would consider liquidating it. Walt said he would give it to any ham who helps take it down, although Walt would probably prefer to donate it to a 501(c)3 organization like the Red Cross.
At the January meeting, we'll solicit volunteers to help Walt take the antenna down.

WB4GLP, N4GA, and WB4QAX at Field Day [1977?]
Source: Arlington ARC newsletter, June 1978
Responding to a request by David Dunlap for information about AARC activities of his father, Don WB4QAX-SK, I located a June 1978 issue of the AARC newsletter, which included the photo, above, of his father, apparently at a Field Day before 1978. I scanned the whole issue (4 pp.) and sent the images to David.

President Jack WA4FXX called the meeting to order at 1948L at the Arlington Chapterhouse of the American Red Cross. Also attending were Alan KO4ALA, Jay KC7BIB, Benn KC5CW, Mike KA8OPJ, Dennis W4PWF, Mike KG4RKL, Jaskaran VU3JJK, and Mike NW3V.
The minutes of the November meeting, as published on the webpage, were approved and the treasurer's report (given in absentia; Happy Birthday to Nuala) was read. The treasurer indicated that we had 24 members in 2002, and five have paid dues for 2003.
W4PWF reported on recent ARRL activities, including that several actions are pending at FCC.
KO4ALA was asked to join the Arlington County Citizens' Committee. Their meeting on 12/10/02 discussed how to communicate with the public during emergencies, especially concerning "messages and means." (Marshall McLuhan is not a member of the Committee.) A special challenge for the region is high percentage of people who don't speak English, and the multiplicity of their languages.
The 2m/70cm vertical antenna at the Arlington County ECC will be checked soon, and siting for a potential 2m horizontal antenna (e.g., two stacked M2s) will be scouted.
WA4FXX will ask KR4MU to contact Sally Cooney to see if we can have some storage space. Some remaining items from the N4BYF estate "grab bag" are available.
A recent Atlantic Monthly magazine article mentioned the Arlington Chapter's response to the 9/11 events at the Pentagon.
W4PWF brought new additions to the reference library, various ARRL publications.
Elections: WA4FXX asked for additional nominations or self-nominations from the floor. Since none was received, W4PWF moved and KO4ALA seconded that the slate of nominees be closed. After this motion passed unanimously, NW3V moved and KO4ALA seconded that a unanimous vote for the nominees be recorded (passed unanimously). Thus elected for 2003 are Jack WA4FXX President, Dennis W4PWF Vice President, John WD4MIS Treasurer, Mike KA8OPJ Secretary, and Mike NW3V Activities Chairman. The formal meeting was then adjourned, and followed by the holiday party: snacks and gift exchange.
Respectfully submitted,
Mike KA8OPJ, Secretary
