The May 20 meeting will be at the usual place--the Arlington County Chapter (ACC) of the American Red Cross. We'll continue planning for Field Day 2003, which will be June 28-29 (always the fourth full weekend of June) Dan, N8YSZ, may bring a laptop and demonstrate APRS. Paul, KG4PXF, won't be at the May meeting, but may set up a PSK31/RTTY digital position for FD 2003.
Also, Mary Kane (or another ACC official) will be on hand to take photos and issue ACC photo IDs to AARC Members who are ACC Volunteers and need a new or replacement ID card. (If you haven't taken the Red Cross Volunteer Orientation course, and would like to, please contact Sally Cooney, ACC Volunteer Coordinator, at 703-527-3010 x735 or scooney@arlingtonredcross.org.)
The Arlington ARC Roster is online at http://www.w4wvp.org/roster.html. Do we have your info correct? If not, please contact the Treasurer (John, WD4MIS) or webmaster (Mike, NW3V).
President Jack WA4FXX called the meeting to order at 1937L at the Arlington Chapterhouse of the American Red Cross, and began with a round of introductions. Also attending were Alan KO4ALA, Jim K9AUC, Paul KA4KUU, John WD4MIS, George KR4MU, Mike KA8OPJ, Rob K1PW, Dennis W4PWF, Paul KG4PXF, Mike KG4RKL, Keith KG4UIR, Jaskaran KG4YIQ, and Ian-yet-to-be-licensed.
The minutes of the March meeting, as published on the webpage and distributed by e-mail, were corrected: Jack's callsign; Club has Cronkite videotape and CDs introducing amateur radio; KG4GFW discussed the "9/11 Race" to take place on 9/6/03. The corrected minutes were approved and the treasurer's report was read.
W4PWF predicted that FCC would announce several actions at or before the Dayton Hamvention. The FARfest profit margin was nearly neutral, but Auto Call is staying afloat.
Old business on the horizontal antenna was re-tabled, awaiting the honored presence of esteemed tower climber KT4EL. Preliminary discussion about installing a 70cm antenna or possibly a dual band 2m/70cm to replace the 2m Ringo was continued to the next meeting.
The VWS Fallfest plans a youth recruiting them, encouraging field trips to meetings, bringing young folks to events, etc. W4PWF will get some brochures for KO4ALA.
EC KO4ALA invited signups to the ARES cadre.
N9AUC demonstrated two "go kits" kept in the garage. Each had portable antennas, tools, accessories, maps, etc. DAT Team members have a key to the garage.
Field Day (June 28-29) Class F rules allow us to use quiet commercial power, in addition to load-testing the generator.
KR4MU (KO4ALA second) moved to send postal cards to GMRS licensees in Arlington, Falls Church, and Fairfax to invite them to Field Day. (unan) Several GMRS (licensed) and FRS (unlicensed) groups are involved in REACT or emergency preparedness groups.
The meeting adjourned at 2105L.
Respectfully submitted,
Mike KA8OPJ, Secretary

Keith, KG4UIR, calls our attention to ARX004: National Hurricane Center's Amateur Radio station WX4NHC (formerly W4EHW) will conduct its 2003 hurricane season on-the-air station test Sunday, June 1, 1300-2200 UTC. The event will mark the first time the NHC uses its new WX4NHC call sign.
Amateur Radio Coordinator John McHugh, KU4GY, says the purpose of the annual station test is to check out all of the WX4NHC radio, computer and antenna equipment using as many modes and frequencies as possible. Some RFI monitoring also will be done. Several new operators will also receive hands-on training.
WX4NHC will operate on HF, VHF and UHF. Operation will follow this schedule: 1300 UTC--3.911 and 7.268 SSB and VHF/UHF FM; 1400 UTC--14.325 MHz SSB, VHF 147.000 repeater/UHF 442.350 repeater; 1500 UTC--144.200 MHz SSB, 14.070 MHz PSK31; 1700 UTC--14.325 and 21.325 MHz SSB, VHF/UHF IRLP Node 9210; 1800 UTC--21.325 and 28.525 MHz SSB; 2000 UTC--14.325 and 144.200 MHz SSB. CW operation will be on 14.035, 21.035 and 28.035 MHz (times will vary).
Stations working WX4NHC are asked to provide a signal report, location and brief weather report. QSL cards are available via W4VBQ. Include an SASE with QSL requests.
