The June 20 meeting of the Arlington Amateur Radio Club will be held at the usual time (1930L) and place (4333 Arlington Blvd).
Jim Scott/KG6EFT from the Vienna Wireless Society is going to give us an orientation on Winlink.
Hope to see everyone there!
73,
--Adam, AI4QB, AARC Secretary
Manassas Hamfest Dan/N8YSZ, Ian/KI4DTP, James/KB1JMV, Alan/KO4ALA, Dennis/W4PWF, Art/W4ART, and Adam/KG4VNC all went to the Manassas Hamfest. We had a table in the inside exhibition space where several of us set up things to sell. N8YSZ sent a wrap-up to the member list. Alan/KO4ALA suggested that we should do another table- maybe with any extra gear from the W4WVP shack- at the Berryville hamfest in August.
Mike/KG4RKL is looking into whether it is possible for W4WVP to get tax-exempt status.
Alan/KO4ALA sent a reminder that we still need to schedule the installation of the 440 equipment and antenna at the shack.
Adam/AI4QB has been trying to drum up interest in a QRS CW net- if anybody is interested please let him know.
Dan/N8YSZ sent notes about some recent 6m work:
6 meters has been showing some interesting E-Skip propogation this spring.
I myself have worked a number of new grids, mostly in Texas, Okalahoma,
Louisana and along the gulf coast. I did have one "double hop" contact out
into Arizona, as well. There have been reports of folks working JA's on 6m
on a couple of occasions. While this hasn't quite stretched out to the
East coast, there have been fairly unusual long openings from here to
California around the same time. I've been told that this could be
multi-hop E's but may also involve other modes like aurora. I'd expect to
see a report in the 50mhz and up column in an upcoming QST.
Thanks to Mike/NW3V for taking the minutes of the May meeting!
Jack/WA4FXX, Alan/KO4ALA, Mike/NW3V, Bob/WB4KLJ, Chuck/KI4DHW, Ian/KI4DTP, Jim/K9AUC, Dennis/W4PWF, George/KR4MU, Mike/KA8OPJ, James/KB1JMV, Dan/N8YSZ, Chris/KF6NFW and friend, Arthur/W4ART, Roger/KI4FVS, Mike/AE4R
WA4FXX- moved to approve the minutes as published on the web. Approved.
KG4RKL gave report. Asked if we can put the club roster on the shack computer. Noted that FD merchandice order is still open.
Dennis/W4PWF: Bill on BPL is in the Senate. Should have seen email regarding the effort to get ARRL members to contact their senators. (George Allen in our case)
Dayton is coming up- will be in Hara Arena. This one won't be a national convention since that's every three years.
KO4ALA: Shelter check- will be on a Sunday. 21st or 28th. There are six shelters: TJ, W&L, Gunston CC, Madison CC, Fairlington CC, Langston-Brown CC.
KGAUC: ACC hasn't contacted shelters yet to update agreements, Red Cross will contact you after this happens.
NW3V: need to put new script on web site, will mail to James/KB1JMV.
WA4FXX: ODEN net is 1st & 3rd Mondays 3997 & 40m- 14425 SSB
Application in from Chris/KF6NFW. He is interested in EmComm and previously lived in Baton Rouge.
KA8OPJ: in town now, started discussion about 440 antenna. May be doing FD, ok planned for FD.
KO4ALA: do we need 2m square antenna like we have in ECC?
WA4FXX: if someone would donate one...
WA4FXX: Dennis, tell us about NOMIC
W4PWF: it worked for me at home, KI4DTP & I will try it in the shack. Is Icom rig connected to antenna?
KI4DTP: write proposal to county for an antenna?
W4PWF: don't want antennas. W4PWF was railroaded into being on ad hoc commitee w/ W4ART, KO4ALA, KI4DTP on antenna and grants. Looking at Arlington Community Foundation's 2006 Community Enhancement Grants.
NE3Z introduced himself (A320 pilot) FD discussion: KR4MU: may not be able to cook usual breakfast N8YSZ can bring laptops for logging KI4DTP will bring one as well NW3V: everyone who brings one, get WB6ZQZ FDLOG software installed Moved seconded and passed to expend not to exceed $75 for FD food.
