The November 21st meeting of the Arlington Amateur Radio Club will be held at the usual time (1930L) and place (4333 Arlington Blvd).
We will be screening the Bob Heil Video "Science of Audio"
Same as last month: I will be sending a packet of QSL cards to the outgoing bureau at ARRL shortly after the meeting- if you have cards you want to send out please bring them to the meeting and give them to the acting Secretary. Please remember that we must provide proof of ARRL membership for everyone using a club packet like this, so please bring a copy of your ARRL membership card or QST mailing label. I'll keep these on file once I get them so this should be a one-time thing.
Hope everyone else can make it to the meeting!
73,
--Adam, AI4QB, AARC Secretary
President Jack/WA4FXX called the meeting to order at 1936L. Attending, besides FXX, were:
Officers:
Mike/KG4RKL, Mike/NW3V, Adam/AI4QB, Dennis/W4PWF
Members:
Ken/WB4AKK, George/KR4MU, Mike/KA8OPJ,
Arthur/W4ART, Ian/KI4DTP, Jim/K9AUC, Bob/WB4KLJ,
Chuck/KI4DHW, Dan/N8YSZ, Jack/KB3KKY
Visitors:
Max/VK2ARZ, Shawn/AG4VE, Slim/KG4LOO
NW3V offered an amendment about who took minutes at the last meeting. With this amendment W4WVP moved that the minutes be accepted- this was seconded and passed.
Treasurer Mike/KG4RKL provided a report on the state of the club finances. He noted that we still have two club patches available for sale.
At this point WA4FXX assumed the role of choir director as the assembled club members regaled George/KR4MU with a stirring (if somewhat off key hi hi) rendition of Happy Birthday- in celebration of his 80th birthday. [Happy happy, and many more, George! -Ed.]
WA4FXX reported that he saw Alan/KO4ALA at the section meeting, and he was still coughing and hoarse. The Marine Corps Marathon is still looking for volunteers. There will be a briefing at the NCAC Institute- call KO4ALA for details.
WA4FXX reported that the South Central Red Cross was conducting a test on Nov 18th from 1000-1400L: 7.285 LSB, 14.253 USB
KI4DHW reported that the Arlington 1700 AM station went on the air 10/16.
KI4DTP talked to MS Walk stations, the said it went ok but they wanted more operators for next year.
WA4FXX asked if KI4DTP had reciepts from field day, to which KI4DTP responded in the negative.
WA4FXX reported that the club IC-761 is back, KR4MU reports that it works well.
WA4FXX reported that Dennis/W4PWF had reciepts for the repairs to the club IC-761.
KR4MU made a motion to reimburse W4PWF for the amount spent to fix the IC-761, based on W4PWF's reciepts (not to exceed $130). It was so moved.
WA4FXX reminds everyone that we need to keep all the batteries in the club shack changed and tested.
Ken/WB4AKK said that the Red Cross is applying to the Virigina Surplus Property division to get several marine HF radios- RAY152.
Mike/NW3V presented a 2005 JOTA (48th annual) patch to Jack/KB3KKY. NW3V alse reported that JOTA was occuring the following weekend in case anyone wanted to help.
WA4FXX reported that the ARRL November Sweepstakes are coming up. Sideband will be on the weekend of 11/18. The NVFMA meeting on 10/19 should be interesting- the head of AMSAT will be speaking.
W4ART participated in the AMSAT meeting in San Francisco. He reported that there were new transcievers, a new SuitSat in the works, and new solar cells for the ISS. The astronaut who launched the last SuitSat was at the meeting to talk about that experience. AMSAT is talking about software defined transponders, making everything ground controllable. There is a new IARU article on Satellites coming this week.
WA4FXX reports that he will reserve the room outside the club shack for November 19th so people can participate in the voice Sweepstakes.
WB4AKK asked if there was any interest in setting up a WinLink station. This would provide the club with the ability to exchange email, etc, from the club. He also has the Army MARS winLink manuals.
W4ART asked if WB4AKK could forward digital copies, if he has them.
Dennis/W4PWF reports the the R&O was published by the FCC, but that there are several errors in it. ARRL is writing up the errors and reporting back to the FCC.
WA4FXX reminded everyone that next month's meeting will include the election of club officers- so everyone should try to be there!
The meeting was adjourned at 2036L.
Respectfully submitted,
--Adam, AI4QB
