The January 16th meeting of the Arlington Amateur Radio Club will be held at the usual time (1930L) and place (4333 Arlington Blvd).
I will be sending a packet of QSL cards to the outgoing bureau at ARRL shortly after the meeting- if you have cards you want to send out please bring them to the meeting and give them to the acting Secretary. Please remember that we must provide proof of ARRL membership for everyone using a club packet like this, so please bring a copy of your ARRL membership card or QST mailing label. I'll keep these on file once I get them so this should be a one-time thing.
Hope everyone else can make it to the meeting!
73,
--Adam, AI4QB, AARC Secretary
President Jack/WA4FXX called the meeting to order at 1935L. Attending, besides FXX, were:
Paul/WG4M, Ken/WB4AKK, Dennis/W4PWF, George/KR4MU,
Adam/AI4QB, Bruce/K7BC, Jim/K9AUC, Roy/AI4GO, Chuck/KI4DHW,
Bob/WB4KLJ, Dan/N8YSZ, Jack/K5OTZ, Will/KI4IPW, Mike/NW3V
WA4FXX asked if there were additions or corrections to the minutes as published. Hearing none, he moved to accept the minutes as amended. Seconded and passed.
KG4RKL was absent so there was no treasurer's report.
KI4DHW for the absent KO4ALA
Updates from the Arlington CERT. There are three hams in the Arlington CERT, looking for more in order to expand capabilities. Email Cynthia- arlingtoncert@aol.com- for class schedule.
WA4FX: NIMS certification becoming required. Feds will start decertifying/defunding organizations without NIMS-certified (100/700) volunteered. Red Cross is requiring background checks, if you haven't gotten it done please do so. Venture Club 80 classes start Jar 13th, ending Feb 3rd with a makeup scheduled for Feb 10th.
W4PWF reports that there's a new Vice Director, and the FCC eliminated the CW requirement.
K5OTZ: when does that take effect?
W4PWF: When published in the Federal Register, or as noted if different.
WA4FXX: brought a printout of the new band plan for hanging in the shack.
Ken/WB4AKK looking into surplus equipment. Found URC-92 by SunAir 1.6-30MHz continuously adjustable TX/RX. Recommend getting three so we have some for spare parts. These are 20yr old radios- they were $7K when the government purchased them then. Looking into how much we'll have to pay for them.
WA4FXX notes that they're good for fixed frequency use- changing freqs with the provided interface is painful.
WA4FXX: Skywarn Recognition day 12/2. K9AUC operated from home with 20m loop antenna "strung on top of the Azaleas", worked the Midwest, Aruba, nothing local.
WA4FXX asked KR4MU how the noise on 40m has been?
KR4MU reports that the recent solar flare has wiped everything out, he's only gotten sporadic contacts and with generally poor propagation.
WA4FXX: please report if power line noise gets bad again so we can contact the power company to look into it.
Dates for reserving the classroom for club use are in progress for approval with RC. Next date is RTTY Roundup on Jan 7.
If you can, try checking in to the ODEN net on first and third Mondays "to let them know that Arlington exists"
KR4MU leaves for FLA 1/9, back in February.
WA4FXX: 2007 is the 400th anniversary of Virginia as an English colony, there are commemorative events all year. The organizers are looking for special event stations to run every weekend for the year.
Bruce/K7BC talking about repeaters and the NVFMA
The meeting was adjourned at 2130L
