March Meeting Information Minutes of the February meeting

March 13 Meeting

The March 13th meeting of the Arlington Amateur Radio Club will be held at the usual time (1930L) and place (4333 Arlington Blvd).

We will have a video for the presentation at this meeting.

I will be sending a packet of QSL cards to the outgoing bureau at ARRL shortly after the meeting- if you have cards you want to send out please bring them to the meeting and give them to the acting Secretary. Please remember that we must provide proof of ARRL membership for everyone using a club packet like this, so please bring a copy of your ARRL membership card or QST mailing label. I'll keep these on file once I get them so this should be a one-time thing.

Minutes of the February 20, 2007 meeting.

Call to Order

President Jack/WA4FXX called the meeting to order at 1929L. Attending, besides FXX, were:

Minutes and Finances

WA4FXX asked if there were additions or corrections to the minutes as published. Hearing none, Art/W4ART moved to accept the minutes as amended. Seconded and passed.

KG4RKL was absent so there was no treasurer's report.

ARRL Report

Dennis/W4PWF noted the following:

ARRL has combined the Field and Membership parts of the org which will have a manager and a deputy manager. Dennis referred to this as a "slight reorg"
Hiring a part time Em Comm manager as well.
Feb 23 - No Code goes into effect. Applicants need to fill out paperwork, and upgrade will be instant. Dennis noted they usually see 5000 VE sessions per year, in 2007, they've _already_ seen 5000 VE sessions.
Noted that Alan will be receiving the Roanoake service award, time still unknown, at the Vienna Wireless Winterfest.
Noted that the Frostfest in Richmond appeared better attended this year, and then went on to discuss some of his experiences with the Festival management.

EmComm

WA4FXX noted that ARES people should sign up with Virginia state website- www.aresva.org

KO4ALA/KI4DHW- Fairfax Firehouse Simplex check last week was a success

WA4FXX- Cert class openings in March

K9AUC noted the following:

Dan Gropper, KC4OCG of SkyWarn was awarded the NOAA Mark Trail award
There is a new WX station in DC for NOAA band
Lots of interest in WinLink
Put old-school wired telephones in blue bag in shack for emergency use- lesson of Northridge quake- cell phones may be unreliable. One phone to be installed on FAX line upstairs at ARC, one on credit card processing line downstairs.
Suggest putting powerpole connectors on all the bench power supplies for easy interconnects during emergency.

KO4ALA- if you're looking for POTS phone pick one up at winterfest

KB3KKY- National Marathon coming up 3/24, 0600-1300L. Looking for more volunteers

Old Business

WA4FCC- new member requests, introductions:

-Andrew/KI4THF- Tech license in early Feb, Arlington Cert member, Red Cross DAT member
-Aric/KI4THM- Red Cross and Cert member
-Laura/SWL- Cert member, into comms.

*W4PWF move to accept new members MSP

WA4FXX- VA 400th anniversary- several people interested, still no firm plans

New Business

WA4FXX noted that W4PWF has to read/review all league pubs, brought in old ones for the club
Also mentioned that the ARRL DX SB 'test March 3,4- room not approved yet, if people are interested let WA4FXX know

W4PWF Winterfest coming up 2/25 , will present award when KO4ALA is ready, probably 1000 or 1100L

N8YSZ- got table with power if anyone's interested, will take club materials

WA4FXX mentioned several upcoming events:

Call from AH6X about hams getting involved in preventing vandalism to monuments during anit-Bush protest on 3/17. If interested contact him.
VAQP 3/18 room at club- several people interested in rover/remote
CQ SB, FD in June
