[ Thanks to Ken/kb3akk for taking the minutes! - Ed. ]
Meeting was called to order by President Reed.Attending, besides Jack/WA4FXX, were:
Dennis/W4PWF, Gary/KC5QCN, Ken/WB4AKK, Mike/KA8OPJ, Arthur/W4ART, Roy/AI4GO, Jim/K9AUC, Mike/KG4RKL, Prentiss/K4PDJ, Chuck/KI4DHW, Bob/WB4KLJ, Aric/KI4THM, Andrew/KI4THF, George/KR4MU, Mike/NW3V, Gary/KC7TNU, Ian/KI4DTP
The minutes of the November 2007 meeting were approved. D. Bodson mentioned that some previous meeting minutes may be missing. (This will be checked!)
The Treasurer gave his report. Dues were due and were collected at the meeting.
Director Bodson had no new news to report. All ARRL actions before the FCC are in limbo (or worse!)
Jim reported the Red Cross Chapter UHF handhelds are now programmed. Detailed sheets with the Red Cross and other amateur radio emergency frequencies were handed out. (Copies can be made available on the website!) It was noted that coordination of the programming of these radios took a long time. In a future program activity, we may have a talk about how the system is supposed to operate. Additionally, it would be desirable to have the club regularly represented on the Old Dominion Emergency Net (ODEN). See info on ODEN nets at end of minutes.
Repeater Status - The repeater is back in operation. The repeater main system is functioning, but the power amplifier is off at this time. Status of the repeater remote receivers was uncertain. Some will require maintenance or repair. The repeater is currently operating without any PL tones. Addition of a PL tone would require tone boards for some radios and users. These might be made available at no cost except that installation would be required. The repeater committee now will examine various alternative arrangements for maintenance and licensing (trusteeship) of the repeater and report to the club in January 2008
President Reed reported that the club facility and meeting room is reserved for the 2008 meetings and for most major operating events in 2008. The Virginia QSO Party date conflicted with another Red Cross event. So alternative suggestions were solicited for that event. Input was also suggested for the ARRL RTTY Contest, coming up soon.
An application was received from Jason Troutman. That will be considered next month.
A membership roster will be developed and made available by next month.
A request from the Girl Scouts for support in the amateur radio area was solicited. It was suggested that the scouts come to the Red Cross and view the available video tape on an introduction to amateur radio. After that, they could listen to and participate in the normal Tuesday evening net. It was also suggested to direct the Scouts to the Mt. Vernon Radio Club program for training and licensing.
Andy, KI4THF has received his General class license (applause).
The Red Cross mentioned that in 2007, there were 32 major disasters, despite the fact there were no major hurricanes in the United States.
The club voted to thank Alan Bosch for his service over the past several years as Activities Chair (applause).
The club voted to thank all who served in 2007 as club officers for their service.
Roster is attached.
Announcements are attached.

Training on ODEN
ODEN/A meets twice a month as indicated below to issue training announcements, practice net procedures, pass real or exercise traffic, and test propagation throughout the State for emergency preparedness. Check-ins are by District (District Map / Coordinators). When checking in please give your call, name, ARES/RACES appointment (if any), and if you are using at least 8 hours of emergency power, please so state and how long you can operate. We encourage all licensed hams to participate; you do not have to be a member of ARES or RACES to check-in.
1830 Hours Local 3947 kHz LSB 1st and 3rd Mondays of each Month
2030 Hours Local 3947 kHz LSB Same nights; we are testing this time slot to see what the turnout is vs. the 1830 time slot.
Your ODEN Net Control Stations are: W4CAC, N4WDC, K4DND, K4RCK, K7BC, and K3EP. Because of travel and other work commitments, we are always looking for backup Net Control Stations to make sure the net always runs when scheduled! If interested, either as a full time NCS or as a backup, please contact K3EP.
Respectfully submitted,
