Minutes/Treasurer

kg4rkl gave treasurer's report

ARRL news

Dennis/w4pwf- The Kosovo Dxpedition likely will not be recognized as meeting DXCC criteria. But may be discussed by Board. The Raleigh, NC hamfest seemed bigger this year. ARRL membership is growing slowly. It is 30 days to Dayton. There is a long time to process DXCC applications, but new staff will help. Dennis liked the FLEX 5000 software defined radio.

Emergency Management

Plans for support to Richmond EOC are changing again. Still to be manned with trained operators. The club radio room has a new Orange binder with the radio CD. It has everything on it, including frequencies and other EmComm info. It includes an inventory of all Red Cross equipment. In draft form now for comments.

Marathon went well but did not use club repeater. Got APRS working for messaging. Was an interesting and fun event. There was a problem with dead spots. We might want to do a club activity to make J-poles to help. Folks may want to use mobile radios in a portable arrangement vice handitalkies. Use of a temporary repeater setup might also help. Jack/kb3kky, the Marathon communications organizer said we learned from experience that will help in other events. Everyone was busy.

Upcoming Events: 24 hr Prince William Forest Run - Apr 26 - Pikes Peak MD - Apr 27

Massanutten Mountain Marathon - May 4 - MS Bike Ride - May 18 - Find out more by listening to the NCAC net on Sunday nights at 8 PM on Tysons Corner Repeater (146.91 MHz output).

Try D-Star: The Alexandria Club - Contact is Marshall has D-Star on 2 m, 440 MHz, and 1 Ghz repeaters. You can enter stations only limited by your radio's memory.

New Business

New member D. Yamanaka - action deferred until she comes to meeting.

Final version of club roster was circulated for changes. A donation was made to Dan for parts and pieces of club repeater upgrade. Priority repairs will be to Roslyn and Fairfax Hospital sites. We met Gerry KJ4DFY. We will vote her into the club next meeting.

Donation of Equipment: Dennis will donate a TS850SAT HF 100 watt transceiver to the club. He also donated and MFJ Cub radio for 40 meter CW (5 watts) . This will be evaluated for a possible club activity.

Field Day: Detail plans for the next meeting. We will reduce generator use since fuel is more expensive.

Other items: The members briefly discussed the change over to digital TV. Low cost converters are available from Radio Shack for $ 60.

Thanks to Ken/wb4akk for taking the minutes.
